Camp Cedar Cliff News
Fall 2008
Day Camp Spring Break Day Camp Spring Break is back by popular demand! We will host Day Camp for K-6th graders April 13th-17th. Each day will be packed with the fun and enthusiasm of the summer with silly songs, Bible stories, and activities your campers will love! You can sign up for the whole week or just come a couple days. For some added excitement, 2nd-6th graders can opt to spend the night on Thursday, April 16th. Check out the Day Camp page for more information and sign up today!
Mountaineers Most campers say they don’t want to leave at the end of their week, and now they don’t have to! Rising 4th-10th graders can now have twice the fun by participating in Mountaineers, our brand new two-week program. With unique programming and scheduling, Mountaineers will have more time to develop skills and relationships with fellow campers and counselors. More details will be on our website soon, but you can register today!
Fall Retreats Even though summer has ended, camp is still in full swing! Eight church and school groups will venture to camp this fall to enjoy fellowship, s’mores, spiritual renewal, and the vibrant autumn colors. We will also host a Middle and High School Retreat October 17th-19th, featuring speaker Steve Russo and worship band, The Last. If you are interested in joining us or booking your own retreat, call our camp office. We still have weekends available!
Home Shows If you can’t come to camp this fall, we can bring camp to you! We will be traveling around the southeast, presenting camp to prospective campers and their families. Home Shows proved to be a great success last year, and we are excited to invite new campers to experience Cedar Cliff in summer ’09.
Preparation Between retreats and Home Shows, we are eagerly planning for next summer. We will be conducting interviews, hiring new and returning staff, and making our program the best it can be! Registration is now open for ’09 sessions. Practice your belly flop and brush up on your camp cheer; we’d love for you to join us!
Summer 2008
Camp Cedar Cliff is finishing up its second summer! Registrations were up from last year with 730 day camper and 650 overnight campers. They’ve all had a blast playing Commando, Adventure Ball, and watermelon water polo, singing silly songs, eating sno cones, zooming down the giant slip ‘n slide, and camping under the stars. Not to mention, campers and staff have developed life-long friendships, and most importantly cultivated their relationship with the Creator of us all. Over 40 kids have made decisions to follow Christ this summer. Many more made other decisions in their walk such as having a daily quiet time, sharing their faith, and respecting their parents. God has proven Himself faithful to us over and over again! We are so thankful for His hand on this place. Although our summer ends on August 15th, you can continue to pray for us as we head into our busy fall retreat season.
Front Gate and Welcome Pavilion The completion of the new front gate and Welcome Pavilion helped us usher in the beginning of camp season. The giant cedar logs of the entrance make quite a statement as you round the bend in the camp road. After passing under what some have dubbed “Stonehenge,” people were wowed by the Welcome Pavilion. Parents drive in, drop off luggage and passengers, and park in the 400-space parking lot. While waiting to catch the shuttle out to camp, you can enjoy the spectacular mountain view from the comfort of a rocking chair. This pavilion has made picking up and dropping off campers smooth and convenient for both residential and Day Camp. It has also become a favorite place to catch the sunset.
Comfort Cabin The nurse’s station has moved out of the office and into its own cabin! The Comfort Cabin is now the largest cabin at camp, with sleeping quarters for the nurse, nurse’s assistant, and boys’ and girls’ sick rooms. There is also a treatment room, a reception area with storage for medication, and laundry facilities. It is centrally located between the cabins and the dining hall, making it convenient for campers and staff to stop by before meals and campfire programs. The cabin also has a full basement used for staff housing.
Office Expansion The office renovation and expansion have given each of the full-time staff office space of their own. Moving the nurse’s station out of the office made room for a board room, reception area, break room, copy room, and three offices. The expansion included more office space and a mail room. The new space has made our days in the office more efficient and productive.
Pine Valley Pavilion Pine Valley Pavilion is now Day Camp headquarters. Day campers start their day in the pavilion with silly songs and Scripture Adventure and close the day there with time to visit their own Trading Post. With an office area, a storage room for skit and game supplies, and new bathrooms, Pine Valley is a great place for Day Camp to be. There are also giant sliding doors that can be opened to allow for a breeze on hot summer days or closed to keep out rain and wind in the non-summer months.
